The cross-body bag workshop is designed for the experienced beginner sewist. This class will focus primarily on the construction of the bag. You should already have good knowledge of the sewing machine threading and basic sewing functions. For this class, the basic tools will not be supplied. The student (you) will need to bring fabric scissors, paper scissors, stick pins and a seam ripper. All supplies to make the bag are included in the price of the class. Although sewing machines are provided, you are encouraged to bring your own sewing machine if you have one, to learn on your own equipment
Robert Joseph has over 30 years experience in tailoring and custom dressmaking. Working over 10 years in the Los Angeles apparel industry, he has worked as a patternmaker and technical designer. He is a designer, owning Robert Joseph Swimwear & Accessories, including downloadable sewing pattern brands, Sew It Like A Man and Leslie Ann.
While designing and operating his own fashion label he taught at various colleges and universities in Southern California, including the Art Institutes and Cal Poly Pomona. Among the various courses he has taught: Patternmaking, Sewing (Production Apparel), Pattern Grading, Photoshop, Illustrator and Design Studio courses.
Robert earned his A.A. degree from the College of Alameda and his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Cal State LA.
