A presentation and panel discussion with leaders from NYC Halloween Parade, Coney Island Mermaid Parade, Burning Man, and NAC’s Bonnet Bash Humanity has been involved in community oriented participatory artforms for centuries with festivals, parades, and many other types of celebrations and spectacles. Join the National Arts Club for a presentation and panel discussion with leaders from such events as the NYC Halloween Parade, the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, Burning Man, and NAC’s own Bonnet Bash. Participatory Culture involves a mix of artforms including fashion, crafting, set design, music, and theater. The panelists discuss how such events help people develop their own artistic skills while creating community in ways that make life more interesting and fun. Panelists: Jeanne Fleming, Producer & Creative Director, NYC's Village Halloween ParadeAdam Rinn (aka Realman), Artistic Director, Coney Island Mermaid ParadeRosie von Lilla, Cultural Development Maven, Burning Man ProjectCome in style and be prepared to participate! This is an in-person event. Your health and safety are our top priorities and we are following all CDC and New York City guidance. Proof of vaccination as well as a photo ID will be required. Masks are also required. RSVP does not guarantee entry. Doors open to the public 15 minutes before the event. Please arrive early to check in. Our coat check is limited. Please do not bring any large bags or backpacks.
