Description
Learn what mental health concerns are, how to recognize them and how to help those with concerns get the help they need in these sessions. A pair of recent studies in the publication Pediatrics reported the frequency of daily depressive and anxious moods among both parents and children increased significantly during the pandemic, especially in those with crisis-related hardships such as job and income loss, caregiving burdens, and illness. Of all families, only 14% reported no hardships during the pandemic, while most had at least two. People who are suffering from these disorders often do not recognize the signs themselves and miss out on the help that they may need.In response, The Heart and Mind Connection is offering Mini-Mental Health First Aid training sessions. The purpose is to educate community members on the basics of how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The courses will focus on how to recognize and respond to warning signs of these illnesses until they can be referred to a professional. This training, like regular First Aid or CPR, is designed to teach people the skills and techniques to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The courses will focus on how to recognize and respond to warning signs of these illnesses. Educating others to recognize signs of people who may be suffering is a giant step towards decreasing depression, anxiety, and substance use disorder rates. Learning how to approach a sensitive subject with someone who is in need of serious help could end up saving their life. The session will be held on April 2nd, from 1p - 5p. Space will be limited in the classes to provide the opportunity to address individuals’ questions. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ For additional information about MHFA training or the work of this peer-run mental health non-profit, please reach out to: [email protected].
