Join us as we hear from a select group of startups we love, and then dig deeper with Charles Fred on the five indicators of scalability. This quarter's ACN event will start 30 minutes after the closing of the Birmingham Venture Club Annual Event, and will feature networking with a more intimate group of ACN members and investors from across the state. In this ACN meeting, instead of the usual five startups pitching, we will reduce that number to 2-3, to allow more time for conversation with Charles Fred, our speaker from Truespace in Denver, Colorado. Charles and the team at TrueSpace have spent much of the past decade focused deeply on a key question first posed in the Great Hall at Gallup in Washington DC: “What operating conditions are associated with post-startup companies that successfully make the leap from $1M to beyond $10M in annual revenue?” To find their answer, TrueSpace partnered with Gallup to conduct a survey of 2,500 businesses to better understand those conditions. The study results included developing a framework of five operating conditions they found associated with sustainable business growth – Alignment, Discipline, Predictability, Endurance and Value Creation. To develop this understanding further, they then spent the next four years deeply embedded in 147 of these startups, interviewing customers, teams, and conducting technical analysis of those who made the leap, and those who didn’t. Charles will be providing an overview of his findings at the BVC lunch, and will provide a deeper dive and more technical conversation in our ACN meeting that follows.
