FREEPORT, NY — The state is pushing for more children to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Two pop-up sites in Freeport will provide the vaccine for ages 5 and older.
At Zion Cathedral, residents get the dose on Thurs., Feb. 24 and Fri., Feb. 25. It's available both days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are teaming up for the event.
Bethel AME Church is also hosting a COVID-19 program on Sat., Feb. 26. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The state launched the #VaxForKids campaign to increase vaccination rates for children ages 5-11 and provide booster doses for adolescents 12-17 years old.
"Parents and guardians, make sure your kids are vaccinated and up to date with all recommended doses," New York State Health Commissioner Mary Bassett said in a statement. "Kids can catch COVID-19 and develop severe disease, and vaccination remains their best protection against the virus and its variants."
The latest data shows Long Island with a slight uptick at 2.12% of COVID-19 cases.
