MIDDLETOWN, CT — Police are asking for help with identifying a man accused of pistol-whipping another man during a fight in which a shot was fired Tuesday morning in Middletown. Police received a call around 9:20 a.m. reporting a shooting incident in the area of Main Street and Liberty Street. The caller told police that a man had been shot in the head. Arriving officers confirmed that a man had not been shot, police said. Witnesses told police that two men had been fighting and one man raised a black revolver as if trying to scare the victim, according to a news release. The victim reached for the gun, but the other man pulled it back away from him, according to police. During the struggle for the weapon, the gun discharged in a northerly direction but no one was injured, police said. Police said the victim was pistol whipped during the fight and sustained minor injuries. He was treated and released from the hospital, according to police. The suspect was described by police as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s who was wearing a black mask and a black-hooded sweatshirt. He was last seen walking west on Liberty Street heading toward Pearl Street.
