Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk: The Norfolk Police Department has reported that a man was sent to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to receive treatment following a shooting on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred at the 7400 block of Sewells Point Road near the Chesapeake Gardens. Police have not publicized the man's name but they report that the injuries were not life-threatening in nature. (13newsnow.com WVEC)21-year-old Nathaniel R. Beane is being detained and charged with auto theft, two counts of assault on emergency personnel, assault on a health care provider, and disorderly conduct in a hospital following a crash. The incident began on Feb. 18 in the 1800 block of Granby Street. The other driver that was involved in the crash was sent to the hospital for treatment of minor wounds. (WAVY.com)A jury could not decide whether to convict a Norfolk woman of felony child neglect causing a mistrial. Jessica Anne Cherry was accused of being connected to a child's fractured skull and brain bleeding while the child was in Cherry's custody. The Commonwealth's attorney could not convince the jury that Cherry was responsible for the blunt force trauma that led to the child's injuries.
