Darien Police Officer Honored At Awards Ceremony

DARIEN, CT — Darien Police Officer Stuart Schwengerer was honored Thursday night by the Norwalk Police Department during an awards ceremony held at Norwalk City Hall. According to a post on the department's Facebook page, tactical teams and crisis negotiators responded to a domestic violence incident in September 2020, in which a suspect barricaded himself in a residence and threatened to use weapons against police. Along with his role as the school resource officer at Middlesex Middle School, Schwengerer is also a member of the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team and responded to assist officers in this incident. After a six-hour standoff, the incident was ultimately brought to a safe and successful conclusion, according to police. As a result, the Norwalk Police Department issued a "unit citation" to the people who provided assistance that day and helped keep those involved and nearby safe, including Schwengerer.
