Masking Mandate In Rockville City Buildings Remains

ROCKVILLE, MD — Masks will still be required in Rockville city-operated buildings and facilities following the end of the county-wide mandate on Tuesday, the city said in a message on Twitter. The Montgomery County indoor masking mandate had most recently been reinstated in January and was ended automatically, without action from the County Council, Tuesday, Feb. 22. Businesses are permitted to require their own masking mandates, and County Executive Marc Elrich said in a statement that he plans to continue wearing one. "While masks will no longer be required in indoor public spaces, I will generally continue to wear a mask in indoor public spaces because wearing a mask, as well as being fully vaccinated and boosted, are the best ways to reduce the risk of transmitting and getting COVID-19," said Elrich in a news release. "We will continue to monitor the situation, and if there should be another surge, based on our experience over the last two years, we know what we need to do to reduce the risk." Nearly 85 percent of Montgomery County residents have gotten two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 95 percent have gotten at least one dose, according to the county's data.
