WESTMINSTER, CO — Westminster was rocked by a second explosion in two days Wednesday, according to firefighters. The Westminster Fire Department tweeted around 2 p.m. Wednesday there was an explosion and active fire at Stratus Townhomes. Residents living in buildings 16, 17, 18 and 19 were told to evacuate. "Westminster Fire Units are responding to reports of an explosion/Fire in the 8300 block of Sheridan Boulevard," the fire department said. The northbound lanes of Sheridan Boulevard was closed between 80th and 88th. Drivers were told to use Federal or Lowell Boulevard. Firefighters from Arvada and Adams County were also called to the blaze. The cause remains unknown. No word on whether anyone was hurt. A photo posted on social media showed firefighters using a ladder and hose to pour water on the flames. The blast comes after a home exploded early Tuesday on the 7700 block of Knox Court. The two homes are about a mile from each other. The explosion Tuesday destroyed a single-family home and human remains were found in the rubble. The cause of that blaze also wasn't immediately known. Two homes on either side of the explosion sustained extensive damage. Other neighbors in the area were allowed to return to their homes.
