Here are the five top stories in Denver today: Sweeps canceled as Denver expands shelters to protect people without homes from cold. Thousands of people were staying in shelters in Denver on Monday night – but advocates aren't convinced the city is doing enough. (Denverite)Denver Firefighters and paramedic units understaffed. Firefighters are sounding the alarm regarding understaffing across the department along with serious delays from Denver Health paramedics when responding to 911 emergency calls. (7News) Risk of fires increase as cold weather hits homeless camps. So far this year, more than 150 fires have lit up campers, and fire officials have confiscating thousands of pounds of propane from the illegal encampments. (FOX31) Colorado Department of Transportation launches pedestrian safety campaign. CDOT's new campaign is designed to get drivers to be more aware of pedestrians. The program also includes a list of safety tips drivers and pedestrians can follow. (CBS4)Explosion destroys Westminster home, human remains found. The fire department is investigating what caused the explosion and who was in the home at the time. One neighbor indicated that the home had been "burned out, and boarded up" prior to the incident.
