LONG VALLEY, NJ — Local police cautioned Washington Township residents on Wednesday to keep their cars locked, keep them in garages and take keys or fobs with them.
The police department reported an increase in car thefts in the Long Valley area, the number having doubled versus February 2021, police said in Facebook post.
Patch reached out to the police department for further comment on exact numbers.
Cars with higher price tags including BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches, Range Rovers and similar types, have been the ones that car thieves have been targeting, police said.
The majority of the cars taken have had key fobs inside.
Residents have been encouraged to report suspicious activity to the police department. The Washington Township Police Department can be called directly about tips and incidents at 908-876-3232.
