Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily. First, today's weather: Plenty of sunshine, but cool. High: 56 Low: 26. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Adrian Kinsella, a Marine Corps veteran and Pat Tillman scholar who served in Afghanistan has coordinated a team of veterans, volunteers, and Afghans to get a home in the Pocket area move-in ready for a "Lucky" refugee who recently served as an interpreter for the U.S. Marine Corps. It took the former interpreter, nicknamed "Lucky," four attempts to get out of Afghanistan. He is now waiting for his applications to be processed in Abu Dhabi before he comes to the United States. Attorney and advocate Alexa Summer purchased Lucky's new home. He will live there rent-free. Lucky's applications to get into the U.S. could take months. Until then, the hope is to rent the furnished home to other refugees through an Airbnb program that works with nonprofit organizations to place them in temporary housing. (KCRA3)Several Folsom residents discovered they were the victim of vandalism late Sunday night and Folsom Police are investigating it as a felony hate crime. At approximately 11:48 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, the Folsom Police Dispatch Center received a call, reporting that 2-3 male subjects were in the act of spray-painting vehicles on Carmody Lane in Folsom. Police discovered several vehicles as well as homes that had been damaged, most of which had anti-Semitic or racist messages and swastikas spray painted on them. Folsom Police is investigating the incident and looking for any information or possible video footage that could help them with the case. Anyone with any information or security footage of the area, or roadways that lead to Carmody Lane should call investigators at at 916-355-7231. (Folsom Telegraph)Chain controls and road closures have returned to the Sierra as snowfall and colder weather have hit the region. According to Caltrans, chain controls were in place as of Monday evening on east and westbound I-80 from Kingvale to Truckee. Poor road conditions and heavy traffic are expected while the weather lasts. Experts are also warning Northern Californians of near-to-below freezing overnight temperatures during the week. (CBS Sacramento) Sacramento police detectives believe a man detained after swinging a sledgehammer at cars on Monday is responsible for the death of a woman whose body was discovered after a fire at a motel room earlier in the day. The woman's body was found inside the room after the fire was extinguished, police said. The man will be booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a homicide charge, police said. Police do not believe there are other suspects. (KCRA3)Every year since 2016, Isaac Gonzalez celebrates his birthday by riding a stationary bike for 12 hours. Gonzalez rides from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to raise money for the YMCA Y-Assist Scholarship Program, which provides funds for people in the community who can't afford to participate in the YMCA's programs. This year's bike ride occurs today, Wednesday Feb 23, falling on Gonzalez's 41st birthday, with a goal of raising $10,000. Gonzalez said he always gets a notification of a donation during his bike ride and that's one of the things that keeps him going. Gonzalez's bike-a-thon will be livestreamed throughout the day on the Sacramento Central YMCA Facebook account. Gonzalez said the livestream will go on for a few minutes every hour. Donations can be made at www.isaacbikeride.com.
