LAKEWOOD, OH — Tickets are on sale Monday for the regional semifinal football game between St. Edward High and Mentor High. For the Eagles, this will be a chance to avenge their lone loss on the season.
Mentor is undefeated heading into the game, at 12-0, and the Eagles are 11-1, St. Ed's only defeat came at the hands of Mentor at the start of the season. The rematch will be played at a neutral site: Parma Byers Field at Robert M. Boulton Stadium.
When the two teams first played this season, on August 29, the game was held in Lakewood. The Cardinals beat the Eagles 29-28 in a thriller. St. Ed's is looking to beat Mentor, move on in the playoffs and defend last year's state title win.
Both the Eagles and Cardinals have blasted through their playoff opponents to get to the regional semifinal. Mentor obliterated Cleveland Heights, 48-7, in the opening round, before beating Canton McKinley 34-13. St. Ed's beat Medina 73-38 before destroying Medina by a score of 47-9.
Now the unstoppable force must play the immovable object. Only one team can advance.
Mentor and St. Ed's will play November 22 at 7 p.m. in Parma. Tickets for the game can be purchased through the Ohio High School Athletic Association's website.
