Residents, Family Dog Escape Naperville House Fire Without Injury

NAPERVILLE, IL — A house fire that started in the basement of a Naperville residence early Wednesday caused more than $100,000 damage but the residents were able to escape without injury, fire officials said. The fire started just after 5:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Langley Circle, Naperville fire officials said. Firefighters arrived within four minutes of the call and found a fire in the basement. The fire was extinguished by 6 a.m. officials said but crews remained on scene for the next 30 minutes to work on hotspots and on ventilating the building. Fire officials said that the residents were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors, which allowed all five family members and the family dog to evacuate the home before firefighters arrived. No one, including firefighters who worked the scene, sustained any injuries. The home is considered uninhabitable by the Naperville transportation, engineering and development. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
