LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange man threatened one police officer and pushed another after police were called to a domestic disturbance late last month, according to a police report. Devoe L. Harris, 56, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery against a police officer, resisting an officer and simple assault. Through a public records request, Patch obtained the full police report. About 5 p.m. Jan. 26, police said they were called about Harris and a woman fighting in the street in the 100 block of Hayes Avenue, where Harris lives. Harris denied the fight got physical. Officer Laura McDermott said in her report that Harris aggressively approached her, pulling up his shirt and telling the officer to leave. She feared she would be hit, so she put her left hand on Harris' chest and pushed him back slightly, the report said. According to police, Harris yelled for the officer to "never put your hands on me." She asked Harris to sit down, but he refused. "If you put your hands on me, I will defend myself," Harris was quoted as saying. "So do what you gotta do, that's how it's going down. But you ain't gonna do s— in my house. You know my record, so you know I don't care. You know I don't give a f—." McDermott asked Harris what occurred between him and the woman, to which he responded, "Ain't nothing happened," the report said. Harris then walked toward the stairs, where the woman was. Officer Taylor Falls put out her hand to prevent Harris from going upstairs or near the woman, police said. He walked into her hand, then placed his hands on her chest and pushed her backward, police said. With the help of other officers, Harris was taken into custody. In an interview, Harris said he and the woman, whom he had known for a year, had gotten into an argument while in Chicago. She later went to his house, and the dispute apparently continued. He threw her belongings onto the front yard, prompting her to kick his truck, police said. Harris said he never hurt the woman, but that he wanted to stop her from hitting him, according to the report. The woman, who was crying, declined medical assistance and said she did not want to speak with officers, the report said.
