Fire Damages Garage In La Grange Park

LA GRANGE PARK, IL — A fire damaged a garage Tuesday afternoon in a La Grange Park neighborhood, firefighters said. The fire department responded within four minutes of the call, which was about 3:30 p.m., according to a news release. The garage is attached to a house at 841 Forest Road. People were in the home at the time, but were not injured, the release said. Firefighters said they had to force entry into the garage through overhead garage doors. They then put out the fire on the floor and shelves, according to the release. Damage was estimated at $7,000. Fire damage was limited to the garage, but the inside of the home sustained smoke and water damage, firefighters said. The specific cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be related to embers escaping from an opening in the back of the fireplace into the garage, according to the news release. The fireplace was being used at the time, the release said.
