CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL —Former Chicago Heights Fire Department Captain Anthony Mascolino was appointed to serve as assistant fire chief at a recent city council meeting, city officials told Patch. Mascoline, who has worked with the fire department for over 20 years, began his new role on Monday. "The decision to appoint Captain Anthony Mascolino as Assistant Fire Chief has been one of my easiest as Fire Chief because of Anthony's professionalism and his 23 years of tested experience at the Chicago Heights Fire Department," said Fire Chief Jeffrey Springer in a written statement. "The department and the City of Chicago Heights are fortunate to have Anthony serving in this critical role." Prior to his tenure with Chicago Heights, Mascolino worked as a first responder for the Glenwood Fire Department. "To lead a team, you must be able to inspire a team," Mascolino told city council members. "And leadership is also about knowing how to deploy that team, their training, and other resources in an emergency situation." When announcing the appointment, Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez said Mascolino was a "standout example" of the kind of first responders residents and coworkers can depend on.
