DHS Seniors Write, Direct Black History Month Performance

DUBLIN, CA — Two Dublin High School seniors have written and directed a play in honor of Black History Month that will be performed Friday. DHS seniors Aaliyah Liggins and Acacia Tripplett, who are the respective president and vice president of the school's Black Student Union, created an hour-long performance called "The Dream." The show is a wide-ranging reflection on Martin Luther King's "dream," and weaves in historic speeches, African and hip hop dances, and performances by the DHS Choir, Band, and Drumline. "Dublin High School's BSU makes a statement on what The Dream is and what it means for the Black community," Tripplett wrote in an email. "While this production focuses on the Black community, Dublin High School's BSU found it important to highlight multiple aspects of the high school. They include: The Art Department, Home Economics, Choir, Band, Leadership, Hip Hop Performers, Video Production and the Library." The hour-long performance will be livestreamed to the school, and students identifying as Black will watch the production together at the school's performing arts center, Triplett said.
