Seeing Columbia River Highway Waterfalls Will Require A Permit

GRESHAM, OR — Almost as well-known as the beautiful waterfalls along the Columbia River Highway is the monumentally long lines of traffic required to drive through to see them. Especially during the summer. The Oregon Department of Transportation has a plan to make it better. Starting May 24, permits will be required to drive the highway between Vista House and Ainsworth State Park between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The system will run through September 5. The permits will be for certain times. ODOT says that they hope that the new system will congestion along the route. Whil people will be encouraged to book online, some permits will be available same day.
