Tucson To Hold Virtual Meeting About New Metro Park

TUCSON, AZ —The City of Tucson has announced that a virtual public meeting will be held on March 1, to discuss the planning and development of Robert A. Price Sr. Park. The new 43.12-acre metro park development will be located at Wilmot Road and Union Pacific Railroad, south of Valencia. The park is expected to be constructed in two phases from 2023-25. The budget for the park is $4 million in bond dollars and $2 million in impact fees, according to the city. The project has grown out of Proposition 407, a $225 million bond package that Tucson voters approved in 2018 for capital improvements like city park improvements and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle pathways. Metro parks typically include amenities like: lighted baseball and soccer fields, a splash pad, sport courts, dog park, skate park and walking paths, the city said. According to the City of Tucson, several amenities are already planned and proposed to be built at the park with Prop 407 bond funds, including: 2 new little league fields with LED lights2 new soccer fields with LED lightsNew parking lotNew playground with shadeNew ramadaNew restroomsNew splash padHowever, the March 1, meeting will give the public a chance to offer more feedback about what will be in the park. According to the city, the meeting will include members of the Ward 4 council office, the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation staff and McGann & Associates, a local landscape architect and planning firm, all of whom will meet the community to walk through the process for the development of the new park.
