Description
Looking for Teens for Paid Research Opportunity at Stanford University Do you have a child who is male and 14-17 years old? Has your child recently been experiencing sad or irritable moods or lost interest in his activities? If so, your child may be eligible to participate in a longitudinal study of the biological link between stress and depression in teenagers. We are examining biological factors that measure stress in the body and brain and see how they relate to changes in mood symptoms over time. The study itself takes place in the Psychology Department at Stanford University over an 18-month period with 3 time-points, each 9 months apart. If your child is eligible, you and your child will have the opportunity to participate in interviews and complete questionnaires at an initial remote session over Zoom from the comfort of your home. Your child will also have the opportunity to visit Stanford University to participate in an fMRI brain scan, finger-prick blood sample, and computer activity. Please know that our staff members are carefully working with Stanford University to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to ensure your child’s, your family’s, and our staff’s safety for this in-person visit. The MRI procedure does not use any radiation and does not have any known physical risks. Your child will also receive a picture of their brain as a souvenir! The remaining follow-up sessions can be completed remotely over Zoom and do not require your return to campus. Between follow-ups, we will check in with your child with a short online survey and phone call every other month. Eligible participants will receive $20/hour for their time completing study components (e.g., interviews, surveys, in-person visit), and up to $60 for completion of all between-session check-ins. Eligible participants will also have the opportunity to receive up to $300 for downloading and interacting with an app on their smartphone. We will schedule all visits around your availability (daytime, evenings, and weekends are all fine). To be eligible for this study: ** you must have a child that is male and between the ages of 14-17 years who has recently been experiencing sad moods, irritability or has had a lack of interest in their activities ** you must be a US citizen or non-citizen with a Green Card ** you must read and speak English fluently ** you should have no immediate plans to leave the Bay Area Your participation in all study-related activities, including requests for information, will be kept strictly confidential.
