Description

LAKEWOOD, OH — There are three positive COVID-19 cases among Lakewood High students, according to the district's dashboard. Twelve Lakewood High students have been asked to quarantine because of the virus. Garfield Middle School has two positive COVID-19 cases and Harding Middle School has one positive case. No other school in the district has reported any positive cases, though a smattering of students from around the district have been asked to quarantine. The district's COVID-19 dashboard can be seen online. In late October, after weeks of preparing for an in-person return to education, Superintendent Michael Barnes made the decision to continue instead with remote-only teaching. The decision was made after Cuyahoga County was re-classified as "red" by the Ohio Department of Health. Barnes' decision prompted a spirited debate at the subsequent Lakewood Board of Education meeting, with parents and staff arguing over whether the district should allow students back into school buildings.
