Bro Brunch aims to provide a safe and brave space for ALL Black men to simply exist!
Austin Justice Coalition would like to invite you to our second installment of Bro Brunch!
Bro Brunch aims to provide a safe and brave space for ALL Black men to exist in community with one another while also unlearning and unpacking what it means to be a "man" in this modern era.
By providing practical communication skills proven to avoid confrontation, hosting a safe space for Black men to have an open and honest dialogue about various topics, and fostering new relationships amongst Black men in the Austin community, Bro Brunch will build and strengthen relationships with all who identify as Black men.
The theme for this installment of Bro Brunch is "The Unpacking and Re-Defining of TOUGH LOVE." Many Black men were raised with "tough love." This type of love is often viewed in our community as the best way to turn a boy into a man. Through this concept most Black boys are taught to repress their emotions, tears, and personal expression.
Is this form of love used as a way to protect us from the harsh realities of racism or from keeping us from being "soft?” What are the pros and cons to “tough love?” Can it be a good thing or does it breed toxic masculinity?
Unfortunately, we don't have a definitive answer to these questions but we want to hear YOUR thoughts and feelings. Let’s figure out the answers together!
Bro Brunch is an entirely FREE event for those who attend. All you have to do is SHOW UP!
