Atlanta has a unique place in these two important eras of American history and you will see interesting pieces of the story come together Atlanta has a unique place in these two important eras of American history and interesting pieces of the story come together in the Battle of Atlanta battlefield neighborhoods. The tour begins near I-20 at the edge of East Atlanta and Kirkwood. As the tour crosses the historic ground it combines stories from the 1864 Battle of Atlanta with the 1964 Civil Rights stories at locations where they intersect. Learn about the people and places that played significant roles in this dramatic history. You’ll visit truly historic sites including one of the sites where a General was killed at Terry Mill Pond, as well as the spot where the Battle began, and several sites where battle lines were drawn in the fight against racial segregation. It's a fairly easy walking tour that takes an hour and a half We will meet in the parking lot of Burgess Peterson Academy at 480 Clifton St SE. The school is at the corner of Clifton and Glenwood Avenues with the entrance to the parking lot off Glenwood. Please note restrooms are not available on this tour. All Phoenix Flies programs adhere to current City of Atlanta health and safety guidelines. All guests, program partners, and employees must wear CDC approved masks for the duration of their visit. The Atlanta Preservation Center is the City’s private non-profit preservation organization. Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Preservation Center promotes the preservation of Atlanta's architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes through education and advocacy. We are excited for our 19th year of Phoenix Flies, a three-week city-wide celebration of living landmarks. Created in 2003, Phoenix Flies provides an opportunity to learn about, celebrate and strengthen Atlanta’s historic and cultural assets. These events, taking place March 5-27, will be live on February 18!
