Mardi Gras music festival and Mardi Paw dog parade Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers headline 4th Mardi Gras Music Festival! Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers headline the first big event in 2022 for the City of Casselberry with its Mardi Gras Music Festival on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Dopsie hails from one of the most influential Zydeco families in the world and has performed all over and debuted his band at the age of 19. The Louisiana native writes both the lyrics and the music for his songs and his band is a double nominee for the Grammy Awards. The other members are Brandon David (guitar), Dee Fleming (drums), Dion Pierre (bass), Paul LaFleur (washboard) and Tim McFatter (saxophone). Opening this free Mardi Gras Music Festival will be local favorite, Beth McKee, a singer/songwriter/pianist/accordion player and former member of the popular New Orleans country-cajun band Evangeline. Recently selected by Orlando Weekly as one of the 14 musicians that are reshaping the Orlando music scene, Beth McKee's New Orleans roots will shine when she brings her "Funky Time" band. Before that, there will be a dog costume contest called Mardi Paws, and there will be junkanoos dancers throughout the night. Mardi Gras refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian Feast of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday,” reflecting the practice of eating richer, fatty foods before fasting for the Lenten season.
