FITZGERALD, GA — University of Georgia football signee EJ Lightsey has been hospitalized following a shooting in his hometown, several news outlets report.
According to UGASports.com, Lightsey was shot multiple times Monday night in Fitzgerald. He suffered injuries to his shoulder and back.
Fitzgerald Police Chief William Smallwood Jr. told ESPN that Lightsey was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany where he is currently in stable condition.
The police chief also told the sports channel that the shooting appears to be gang-related and that Lightsey was in a park working out when he was shot.

Lightsey signed with the Georgia Bulldogs in early February. He ranks as the nation's No. 494 overall player and No. 49 linebacker, according to 247Sports.com.
