CHICAGO PORCH PROJECT

Description

I am an artist with an interest in mundane things. Currently I am working on a project centered around the porch collapse of 2013. The Chicago Porch collapse of 2013 was the deadliest porch collapse EVER in U.S history, 13 people died and 57 people were injured after the balcony of a Lincoln Park apartment building collapsed due to the structure not being up to code. As a result, Chicago instituted very strict codes for construction. Since moving to Chicago from rural KY I have seen and noticed the identical construction and am enamored by it. WHAT I NEED FROM YOU: If you have a porch and would like it to be included in an artists photobook send me a picture of the porch and the address it is located it. (Cross streets are fine) OR If you see an interesting porch and would like to send it in, please include an image and location. I WILL NOT be contacting you in person unless you would also like to be included in the photos, but that is 100% voluntary and definitely NOT a requirement. WHAT I WILL BE DOING WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHS: I am using this to crowdsource ideas and streamline this process to get as many different images as possible. Once you send me the photo of said porch and its location I will then photograph the porch myself. This is to ensure a consistent visual theme with the book. I am creating an architectural catalog and visual consistency in the photographs is key. You will be credited in the final form of the book if you choose to be identified. WHAT I WILL BE DOING WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHS: This is a project I will be using for school (I am a grad student) and selling in zine form at local bookstores around the city. I will NOT be compensating for the photos as I am not sure that any significant money will be made. I WILL be giving credit to those who wish to contribute.
