DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin High School club raised nearly $1,000 to support Sierra Leone, Africa by collecting recycling from neighbors. The school's ME to WE Club held a "Trick or Trash" event on Halloween and drove about Dublin, conducting contactless pick-ups of plastic bags containing recyclables. They cashed in at local recycling plants. More than 11,000 recyclables were collected at the end of the day, said club President Shrey Raj. The money will go toward building a school and irrigation system in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone's civil war was responsible for the destruction of 1,270 schools, according to Africa.com. Two in five Sierra Leone residents are literate. Learn more about the ME to WE club's efforts to support Sierra Leone children here.
