Milford Fire Department Gets $8,200 For Fire Safety Programs

MILFORD, MA — The Milford Fire Department was recently awarded over $8,200 in state grants to fund safety programs for Milford students and seniors. The S.A.F.E (Student Awareness of Fire Education) and Senior SAFE grants were announced last week. Milford will get $5,175 to teach fire safety in town schools. Another $3,055 will go toward senior center presentations, and visits to seniors for fire inspections and to give out smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The state Department of Fire Services gave about $1.8 million to 227 communities for the two programs last week. "The fire departments delivering these safety messages are reducing the risk of fire, injury, and tragedy in cities and towns across the Commonwealth," state Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey said in a news release. "No child has died in a Massachusetts fire since March 2019, and fire deaths overall continue to trend downward. Programs like S.A.F.E. and Senior SAFE are among the reasons Massachusetts is one of the most fire-safe states in the nation."
