Description
We're back! Join us for our biggest event of the year the Saturday before Mother's Day. Join us May 7, starting at 9:00 a.m., for the 2022 UF/IFAS Leon County Extension Open House and Plant Sale! Meet your local UF/IFAS Extension agents and program partners and learn about gardening, natural resources, 4-H youth development, and family and consumer sciences. Local groups joining us include Capital City Garden Club, Tallahassee Garden Club, and specialized groups like the Rose Society and Bonsai Society. Master Gardener Volunteers have spent all spring growing plants for you! We have over 3,000 plants, including roselle, native milkweeds, fruit and vegetable plants, as well as a large variety of ornamental landscape plants. Whether you are gardening for wildlife or for your own enjoyment, we have a plant for every interest! Gates for the Plant Sale open at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Cash, credit, and checks accepted. Inside the auditorium you'll find our silent auction and bouquet sale, benefiting local 4-H youth through scholarships and club programming. 4-H youth in Leon County learn about forestry, horticulture, arts and crafts, sewing, leadership, entomology, and more through our summer camps and year-round clubs. This is our largest fundraiser for the year, supporting programs like 4-H scholarships, school and community gardens around the county, our Demonstration Garden, and other educational efforts throughout the year. Master Gardener Volunteers will be on deck to answer all your gardening questions! The Cooperative Extension Service is a partnership between state land grant universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and county governments throughout the nation. In Leon County, the partnership includes the University of Florida (UF), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), and Leon County Government. UF/IFAS Extension’s mission is to develop knowledge in agriculture, natural resources, and the life sciences, and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. Leon County Extension conducts research-based educational programs in Agriculture and Food Systems, Horticulture, Family & Consumer Sciences, and 4-H Youth Development.
