The Western Stock Show Association d/b/a National Western Stock Show (WSSA/NWSS) is seeking a candidate in our Event Operations Department that will work as a team member within Building and Grounds to support achieving NWSS' Vision, Mission and Values. The candidate will assist the Facilities Manager in the day to day operations of the National Western Complex. Overview Under the direction of the Facilities Manager this position is responsible for maintaining and repairing the grounds and structures within the complex. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the NWSS Drug and Alcohol Policy, PUC, and OSHA regulations. About Us The National Western Stock Show, established in 1906, is the premier livestock, rodeo, and horse show in the nation, serving agricultural producers and consumers throughout the world. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization providing education in agriculture, including college and graduate-level scholarships in agriculture and veterinary medicine for practice in rural areas. The National Western Stock Show, one of Colorado's preeminent tourist destinations, is held every January for 16 days. A nationally recognized western heritage and entertainment event, the stock show hosts one of the world's richest regular season professional rodeos, one of the country's largest horse shows, and Colorado's largest western trade show, attracting attendance numbers over 700,000 visitors each year. Throughout this historic event, the National Western strives to strengthen American agriculture through enrichment programs and youth education in livestock, equestrian, farming, ranching, animal awareness, and appreciation. Roles & Responsibilities Completes tasks such as painting, structural repairs, woodwork, furnishings of buildings and grounds, snow removal, cleaning of trash and other refuse, and basic mechanical repairs. Assists other areas or departments within the complex. Works independently as well as in a team environment, often adhering to tight deadlines. Operates various equipment (forklift, skid steer, tractor, etc.) in a manner that is compliant with OSHA regulations and WSSA/NWSS safety policies. Completes general maintenance on complex shows which will require various degrees of lifting, bending, standing and walking. Assists in the set up and tear down of shows and events (may not always include operation of heavy equipment). Completes general maintenance duties such as stall set up and tear down and general maintenance projects (cleaning, painting, sweeping, mopping, etc.) for the facility, as needed. Duties may shift to that of an area supervisor during the National Western Stock Show each January, leading crews who work 24/7 the entire month to keep the buildings and grounds ready for the next day or prepare for the next event or move-in. Conducts detailed inspections. Removes, repairs, and replaces building parts as necessary. Operates a variety of hand, power, and shop tools. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work. Practices safe work methods and adheres to safety regulations. Required Skills & Abilities Must be able to understand verbal and written directions Ability to communicate and work in a team environment under set deadlines while delivering exceptional customer service is essential. Great organizational and time management skills are a must. Understands and follows oral and written instructions. Able to multi-task and clearly communicate assignments. Must exercise independent judgment and initiative without close supervision and estimate necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments. Excellent customer service skills. Must have a flexible schedule, including working days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays hours up to 12-hour shifts. Hours of work may vary depending on shows. Must be at least 18 years of age or older to apply. Preferred Experience/Qualifications Experience operating a forklift, skid steer, tractor, loader, dump truck and/or similar equipment. Painting experience High School Diploma/GED. Automotive Mechanic training. Possess a valid Colorado Driver's License with a clean and current MVR upon hire and a clean MVR on an annual basis. Physical Demands National Western Complex is a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor commercial and agricultural complex where dusty conditions and animals may exist. While performing the duties of this job, work is performed both indoors and outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and rain, on varied surfaces. Our employees must be able to work indoors and outdoors with regular and prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, must be comfortable working at heights, and be able to work around moving machinery and equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds. Pay Range & Benefits This is a non-exempt, hourly full-time position which ranges from $17.50 - $22.00 an hour and offers sick and vacation accrual benefits.
