CONNECTICUT — There is no doubt that Connecticut loves Dunkin'. Visiting a Dunkin', or "Dunkies" as our Massachusetts neighbors call it, is a daily ritual for many Nutmeggers. There are 484 Dunkin' locations in Connecticut, compared with about 130 Starbucks locations. The first Dunkin' Donuts opened in Quincy, Mass. in 1950 and became a franchise operation five years later. It now has more than 9,100 U.S. and 11,300 total worldwide locations, according to the company's website. It serves more than 3 million customers daily. The company re-branded to Dunkin' in 2019 to emphasize it offers more than just donuts and coffee. Dunkin' Donuts is in 44 states plus Washington, D.C. The greatest concentration of stores is in the eastern U.S., particularly the northeast. Connecticut has the seventh most Dunkin locations in the U.S. and the fourth most when adjusted for population. There is one Dunkin' for every 7,450 Connecticut residents, which is only bested by New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Fittingly, Hartford (home of Dunkin' Donuts Park) has the most locations out of any municipality with 17. Danbury takes the Starbucks Connecticut crown with five locations. Avon and Woodbridge are the only Connecticut towns that have a Starbucks, but no Dunkin'. Lisbon is perhaps the most commercially-caffeinated Connecticut town when adjusted for population. The small New London County town has fewer than 4,200 residents, but one Starbucks and two Dunkin' locations.
