CONNECTICUT — What an odd of week of weather for us. Monday, felt almost spring-like, with sunshine and temperatures into the mid 50s. Tuesday brought more 50 degree weather, but clouds and rain emerged this afternoon and the rain will get heavier this evening, and wind gusts will increase to nearly 40 mph at times Tuesday night. An inch of rain is forecast, and it should end Wednesday morning. Temperatures will rise into the 60s on Wednesday and then just like that temperatures plummet to the mid 30s on Thursday and then a winter storm is forecast for Connecticut Thursday night and Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut saying, "A storm system Thursday night into Friday has the potential to bring a wintry mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain. Accumulating snow is mostly likely away from the immediate coast, but the probability of a warning level snowfall remains low. Impacts to the Friday morning commute are likely, but specific snow and ice amounts remain a bit uncertain at this time." At the immediate coast, 1-3 inches of snow is currently forecast for Thursday night and then the snow transitions to ice and then plain early Friday morning, the weather service said. The rain ends around 8 p.m. Friday, along the coast. For interior sections of southern Connecticut, the weather service is also forecasting 1-3 inches of snow Thursday night, but the precipitation will remain snow and ice here longer on Friday morning. Plain rain is forecast after noon on Friday in interior sections of southern Connecticut. There is a 35-40 percent chance of six inches of snow in interior sections of southern Connecticut and a 20-35 percent chance of six inches of snow at the immediate coast, the weather service said. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties saying, "A winter storm will bring accumulating snow and perhaps a bit of ice to southern New England on Friday." The weather service has predicted 2-4 inches of snow on Thursday night for northern Connecticut. And in Litchfield County, the weather service said, "Accumulating snow is expected Thursday night into Friday, with moderate to heavy accumulation possible. A Winter Storm Watch will likely be needed over portions of the region." A winter storm watch means there is the potential for six inches or more of snow accumulation. Once the snow to ice to rain precipitation ends Friday afternoon in Connecticut, we remain cold through at least next Monday, with high temperatures around 30 degrees each day. See also: Dunkin' Vs.
