Description
Press release from D.J. Bettencourt:
Feb. 22, 2022
After careful deliberation, I have decided to run for re-election to the Salem, NH Budget Committee. My purpose now, as it has been in the past, is to be an advocate for taxpayers and a supporter of balanced budgeting.
In seeking to serve for another term, I would continue to bring seasoned budgetary experience. This includes six years of service on the Budget Committee, eight years of experience in the New Hampshire legislature, three years of budgeting for non-profit organizations, four years as Governor Sununu's Policy Director and currently serving as the Deputy Commissioner of the New Hampshire Insurance Department. In that role in Governor Sununu's administration, I help to manage 80 employees and a budget of $13 million.
I'm a fiscal conservative who has approached every budget with respect, transparency, fairness and an understanding of the need to make strategic investments. That said, I firmly believe that it is time to reduce property taxes for the residents of Salem.
I believe in efficient government and I'll always be a defender of your hard-earned tax dollars and pay-as-you-go financing for most capital expenditures. I've proudly tried to find savings for taxpayers, but not without doing my homework, preserving essential services and putting alternative solutions on the table.
I believe I have lived up to the promises I made to voters when they elected me in 2016. I will continue to do so if I am able to earn your support again in March. Thanks for your consideration.
