Press release from Cookson Communications: Feb. 22, 2022 Two finalists have been selected for the Cooperative Middle School (CMS) principal position - Russ Kupperstein, from Ipswich, Mass., and Eris Hersey, from Hampton, N.H. The finalists will participate in final school board interviews at Exeter High School on February 22 starting at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the back-to-back interviews, which will be held at the Arthur L. Hanson III Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Kupperstein is currently serving in his first year as the Secondary Principal at Colegio Maya, The American School of Guatemala, after serving in the same capacity for two years at the International School of Ouagadougou. Mr. Kupperstein had previously held the position of IB Diploma and Advanced Placement Coordinator at Cairo American College, IB Diploma Coordinator and IB/MYP Biology teacher at Northbridge International School Cambodia and IB Diploma Coordinator and IB/MYP Physics teacher International School of Belgrade. Growing up in Chelmsford, Mass., Mr. Kupperstein attended Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington to earn a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. He went on to earn a Master's in Curriculum and Teaching at Saint Martin's University and a Master of Arts in Education Administration from the University of Nebraska. He will be available for the public school board interview at 6 p.m. Ms. Hersey has been serving as the interim principal of CMS since July 2021. Prior to this role, she spent 10 years at Idlehurst Elementary School in Somersworth as assistant principal before taking the role of principal in 2015 and was named 2020 N.H. Elementary Principal of the Year. Ms. Hersey's experience also includes serving as an elementary school teacher, in third and fourth grade, at Seabrook Elementary School in Seabrook. Ms. Hersey earned both her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Education Leadership and Master's in Education from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine as well as both a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications at Keene State College. She will be available for the public school board interview at 6:40 p.m. Following the public interviews, the Exeter Region Cooperative School Board plans to move into non-public session to deliberate on the principal nomination as presented by Superintendent Dr. David Ryan. The School Board will take action back in a public session announcing the final selection. Cooperative Middle School, part of SAU 16, in Stratham, N.H. was originally built in 1998 and is home to 1,200 students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade from Brentwood, Exeter, East Kingston, Kensington, Newfields and Stratham.
