PITTSBURGH, PA — Get used to getting your foot off the gas in Pittsburgh parks. City council on Tuesday reduced the speed limit in most public parks areas from 25 mph to 15 mph. Councilman Bobby Wilson's legislation noted that AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety statistics reflected that the average risk of a severe injury for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle is 10 percent when a vehicle is traveling at 16 mph. The percentages increase to 25 percent when the vehicle is traveling at 23 mph, and 50 percent when it's moving at 31 mph. Be the first to know what's happening in your community and region.
