JOLIET, IL — A 29-year-old Joliet man now faces four felony charges after Joliet police say Omar Lopez busted open a bedroom door and threatened to kill a man while pointing the gun at him. Moments later, Lopez fired one gunshot into the floor of the house, police said. On Saturday, Lopez was brought to the Will County Jail on two charges of aggravated assault, aggravated discharge of a gun and unlawful use of a weapon. At 2:15 a.m. Joliet police were notified of a gun disturbance in the 1100 block of Antram Avenue, which is near Woodruff Road, in the Forest Park area. According to police, a woman and her boyfriend were in the house and that's when Lopez showed up, pointing a gun at the woman until she got out of his way. Lopez then began beating the bedroom door as he tried to confront the man, according to police reports. "Lopez entered the bedroom and threatened to kill the male while pointing a handgun at him," police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "The male victim left the residence, at which time Lopez fired a single round into an interior floor." Lopez then ran outside, got into his car and drove off, according to Joliet police. Later, Joliet police learned that Lopez was taken into custody in Chicago by Illinois State Police. Will County Jail logs listed Lopez as living in Chicago, while Joliet police identified him as being a Joliet resident. On Sunday evening, he was released from the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $40,000 bail.
