JOLIET, IL — A 31-year-old convicted felon from Shorewood who was driving around Joliet's southeast side early Tuesday morning is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he was keeping a loaded gun in his vehicle's glove compartment. Ronald Neal, who lives in the 400 block of Arrowhead Drive, was booked into the Will County Jail at 2:52 a.m. Tuesday. Joliet police arrested Neal on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, obstructing justice and having no Firearm Owner's Identification card. Joliet squad cars pulled over Neal's car at 12:33 a.m. near DesPlaines and McDonough Streets for a turn signal violation, police said. Although Neal was not charged with any drug offenses, Joliet police say they searched his car after "officers detected an odor of burnt cannabis coming from the interior of the vehicle." Joliet police recovered a loaded handgun from the glove compartment, and Neal was placed into custody without incident, according to police. At the Joliet Police Department, Neal refused to cooperate with booking procedures and was then transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, police reports reflect.
