LAKE COUNTY, IL —The Lake County Sheriff's Office upped its patrol efforts over the Super Bowl weekend, and the results are now in from that traffic campaign. From Feb. 11 through Feb. 14, officers made three driving while under the influence arrests and issued 20 speeding citations and 11 seat belt citations, according to a sheriff's office news release. The Super Bowl weekend Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket enforcement effort is meant to keep impaired drivers off the roads and to ensure more people buckle up and follow all traffic safety laws, according to the news release. "I am very serious about the safety of Lake County residents, and this includes all of those traveling on our roadways," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said. "This specific campaign might be over, but our sheriff's deputies will continue to arrest those who make the poor choice to drive drunk or high." The Super Bowl enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
