No Mask Rule: D-205 Still Sees Few Virus Cases

ELMHURST, IL — The number of coronavirus cases in Elmhurst School District 205 continues to dwindle, according to its latest report. This trend is in spite of the district's lifting of the mask mandate two weeks ago. As of Friday, 30 students had the coronavirus, amounting to a third of a percent of the student body. That's down from 43 cases a week earlier. Among employees, the district reported two cases Friday, down from four a week before. A month ago, 36 employees tested positive for the coronavirus. Most of the district's schools saw declines. As of Friday, Jefferson and Fischer elementary schools and the Transition Center had no cases at all. York High reported three cases among students as of Friday. That amounts to one case for every 950 students. According to the latest numbers, four of the district's students were quarantined Friday as the result of close contacts with those with the coronavirus outside school. The previous week it was zero. As of Friday, no students were reported quarantined in the previous week as the result of close contacts in the district's schools. According to District 205, 56 percent of students district-wide are vaccinated.
