ILLINOIS — As dense fog and rain hit the Chicago area, inclement weather was causing major delays Tuesday morning at O'Hare International Airport.
The airport said it was under a "traffic management program," causing arriving flights to be delayed an average of 58 minutes.
Some departing flights were also delayed due to weather. O'Hare said flights headed to La Guardia Airport in New York were delayed around 41 minutes. According to FlightAware, 81 flights were delayed at O'Hare on Tuesday morning and another 15 were canceled.
Around 10 flights were delayed at Midway airport as well.
The National Weather Service advised drivers to allow extra travel time Tuesday morning due to fog, along with potential downpours.
Scattered showers are possible throughout the Chicago area through the morning, with the potential for pea- to nickel-sized hail.
Tuesday's high is expected to be around 49 degrees, but a big temperature drop is coming, with temperatures dipping to the upper 20s and lower 30s, the National Weather Service said.
