DETROIT — Three teenagers were arrested Tuesday morning in Detroit after they led police on a high speed chase in a stolen SUV, Michigan State Police said.
Officials said they found the stolen 2013 Ford Escape on Wyoming Street near Schoolcraft Road in Detroit at 2:40 a.m. Once officers initiated a traffic stop, the driver of the SUV took off, officials said.
State troopers chased the SUV until its driver reached 100 mph and turned off the lights, at which point officers terminated the pursuit for safety reasons, officials said. Troopers said this wasn't the first time the SUV fled police, as officers also tried to stop it over the weekend.
Although troopers terminated the pursuit of the stolen SUV, they continued searching the area for it and found the SUV parked at a gas station on Joy and Greenfield roads, officials said.
Troopers boxed in the stolen SUV in the gas station's parking lot and arrested the three teenagers without incident, officials said.
An investigation in ongoing and a report will be sent to the prosecutor's office.
