JACKSONVILLE, AL — For the first time in more than a decade, the Vestavia Hills High School girls basketball team is in the AHSAA semifinals. The Rebels defeated Hewitt Trussville 59-43 in the regional finals in Jacksonville to punch their ticket to Birmingham.
Top scorers for the Rebels were Anna Towry, who led Vestavia in scoring with 17 points; Emma Smith, who had 16 points; Sarah Gordon with 9 points; and Carley Smith and Jill Gaylard who each scored 7 points.
Vestavia will face either Central-Phenix City or Auburn next Thursday morning in the 7A semifinals in Birmingham.
