NORTHPORT, AL — The Robert Hasson Community Center will soon be on the receiving end of much-needed playground equipment after a car crash last year caused significant damage to the park's offerings. The Northport City Council on Monday approved the purchase of nearly $75,000 in playground equipment from Struthers Recreation through OMNIA Partners Cooperative. District 2 Councilman Woodrow Washington III told Patch following the meeting that every piece of playground equipment was damaged and in need of replacement. "I'm just ready to get some playground equipment back in place and give the kids something to do," he said. A look at the renderings for the new playground equipment at the park. The funds were initially set aside for new basketball courts at Kentuck Park. But other improvements for the Hasson Community Center were also made possible through a $4,500 grant provided to Academics In Motion by the Tombigbee Resource, Conservation and Development Council. "We have the redone the floor with about 2,900 square feet of laminate vinyl and we also just purchased four new computers and a laptop," Washington said. As for the playground, Northport City Engineer Tera Tubbs explained the cooperative partnership would allow the work to move forward quickly, since the project has already been bid out.
