CUMMING, GA — One teen was injured and another charged after "playing" with a gun, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. On Feb. 19, deputies responded to a 911 call of a person shot at The Villages at Castleberry Subdivision. Two 16-year-old males were at the home alone and got a hold of a handgun belonging to one of their parents. Sheriff's deputies, Forsyth County Fire and EMS arrived, and began first aid of the injured teen. The preliminary investigation revealed the juveniles were "playing" with the handgun and had loaded and unloaded it several times. The teen who lived at the house then pointed the weapon at the other and discharged a single round, striking the other boy in the abdomen. Detectives with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit begin an investigation. Detectives believe that alcohol and drugs were a factor in the shooting. Both teens attend school within Forsyth County. The injured teen is in stable condition at a hospital. The juvenile who fired the handgun has been charged with aggravated battery and minor in possession of a firearm. He is in custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. The Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation.
