Description
VACAVILLE, CA — Vacaville police are investigating an attempted kidnapping reported Monday at a local park. It was around 3 p.m. when dispatchers received a call from the guardian of a 7-year-old boy who said he was walking along the parking lot path to Meadowlands Park after finishing his school day when a stranger tried to kidnap him at knifepoint, police said.
The stranger reportedly approached the boy, held a folding knife toward his face and demanded he go to a nearby landmark, police said.
The boy quickly ran to his guardian who was waiting in a car at the park, which is on Vanden Road near Callison Elementary School. The boy described the person with a knife as a white man in his 30s with a goatee who was wearing an orange T-shirt and blue jeans, according to police.
Vacaville officers "immediately flooded into the area" and searched for a knife-wielding suspect; officers did find a person matching the suspect description but the boy said told them it was not the suspect, police said.
Officers continued searching the nearby neighborhoods and streets, but still did not find their suspect.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Detective Lisa Sampson at 707-469-4851.
