SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The Quail Fire in eastern Solano County has now burned 1,837 acres and is 40 percent contained, Cal Fire said late Sunday afternoon.
Also, the mandatory evacuations called Saturday night for homes and other buildings in the area near the fire were lifted Sunday afternoon, Cal Fire said.
The fire is believed to have started about 4 p.m. Saturday near Quail Canyon and Pleasants Valley Road southwest of Winters and northeast of Vacaville, spread fast Saturday night Saturday afternoon, thanks to low humidity and strong winds. An evacuation center had been established at the Three Oaks Community Center, 1100 Alamo Drive in Vacaville.
There have been no injuries reported, but three structures were destroyed. More than 100 structures had been considered threatened by the fast-moving grass fire. More than 600 firefighters have been working to control the blaze, its cause still under investigation, Cal Fire said.
