Description
Zoom is a great format for Songwriters to share their work. I have taught several classes at the Jazzschool in Berkeley via Zoom and found it to be a successful way to learn and present original songs. The class I offer is 10 weeks, meeting weekly, starting date TBD, and I work with a small number of students in each 1.5 hour class. The teaching corresponds to my book, The Art of Creative Songwriting, and my intention as a teacher is to help students explore the possibilities of writing music that is beyond the template of commercial pop hits. The ideal student reads music, understands the basics of music theory, and is motivated to work on and present original material to workshop in the class. I will run the class with 3 students, but prefer 4. We'll be discussing all aspects of songwriting: topics, lyrics, melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and presentation. I am a lifetime songwriter, have release 3 albums of original songs, and am currently working on a 4th. I've performed my work extensively and have a fourth album in the pipeline.
