Description
Join us to celebrate the miracle of Miss Ruud and her soon to be born Foal! When Miss Ruud looks at you her eyes twinkle with curiosity, and you can’t help but feel her desire for a deeper connection. She’ll nod her head until you step closer, and when you are near she will sniff, and snoozzle, and smoozzle and share her affection all over you. With a wide white blaze painted on her face, four very tall white socks, and a little white heart on her belly, she has the stunning good looks of Elizabeth Taylor’s ‘The Pi’ in National Velvet. With a glance, she’ll ignite your imagination to see all of the wonderful things you could do, and who you could be with such a gentle friend and magnificent being as she. Just a few months ago, Miss Ruud could barely lift her head to say hello. Worry and fear had taken over her expression as she fought for her life and that of her unborn foal amid the slaughter bound feedlots in Louisiana. How a mare of her beauty, youth, and fine pedigree ever landed there we will likely never know. On December 1, 2021, thanks to our loving community, Unbridled was able to rescue Miss Ruud and her unborn foal. Malnourished and neglected, we didn’t know if she would have the strength to continue the pregnancy. While in quarantine, with careful refeeding and specialized grain and supplements, she began to reclaim her health. Since arriving at Unbridled on December 31, 2021, Miss Ruud has embraced her peaceful new life and plentiful food sources. She eats about 20-lbs of grain a day along with free choice hay and alfalfa. She is gaining weight, her milk bag is swelling, and her foal is growing. Miss Ruud shifts and sways as the little one plays in the dark of her womb. We confirmed with The Jockey Club that Miss Ruud had a filly in 2021, and that she had been mated last on April 29, 2021 with Ocean Knight. She is expected to foal between March 26th and April 10th, 2022. Will her foal be a colt or a filly? A bay or a chestnut? Will he or she be decorated in white … soon we will find out. In the time between now and Baby Ruud becoming visible, we hope that you will be able to join us to Celebrate Life - A Foal Shower at Unbridled. Celebrate Life is limited to 50 tickets on location. You will enjoy a champagne welcome followed by a seated indoor vegetarian lunch in the company of the most compassionate and kind people who truly care about horses. This being a fundraiser for Miss Ruud's foal to be, we will have some fun and games, and silent auction items to begin to build a fund to care for and forever protect Baby Ruud. Every attendee may add-on a guided tour to meet and greet all of The Horses Of Unbridled and to learn their rescue stories. And all attendees, will take home a gift bag of goodies celebrating the lives we have saved. ictured above and below: The sire (father to be) is OCEAN KNIGHT. Ocean Knight is a graded stakes-winning son of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin. As a 2-year-old, Ocean Knight was purchased by Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stables at the 2014 Ocala Breeders' Sales March Training Sale. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, OCEAN KNIGHT won four races and earned $390,000. Ocean Knight's dam, Ocean Goddess, was bred by Arthur Appleton at Bridlewood Farm and sold for $270,000 at the OBS March sale in 2007. Her 2015 foal by Pioneer of the Nile, named Nero, sold for $950,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale. We are so grateful for our loving community of supporters who stepped up when Miss Ruud and her unborn foal needed a lifeline. Join us on March 20th to Celebrate Life.
